Vacuum Belt Filter Troubleshooting Tips
Horizontal Vacuum Belt Filters are one of NFM's specialties. Our field service mechanics and engineering team have come up with the following tips and tricks to troubleshoot your HVBF. Designing, installing, repairing, and refurbishing vacuum belts of every make and model, as well as our own name brand machines, has prepared us to spot any issue, before it becomes a major one. Follow this tips to save labor hours and cost.
Rubber drainage belt curbing is stretched out and cracking, allowing slurry to slide off the sides of the belt. Our corrugated curb expands around pulleys, preventing wear damage. We can hot vulcanize onsite to maximize its reliability.
Cloth belt is blinding in strips. If your shower bars are clogged then your cloth belt can blind prematurely where it is not being washed. NFM offers self-cleaning shower bars, which will extend the life of your cloth belt and reduce down time.
Vacuum loss is often caused by misaligned slide strips. If the vacuum pan was recently opened for cleaning, the slide strips may not be properly aligned with the drainage holes on the rubber belt. Reassemble with a proper seal.
Drive pulley tracks poorly. Grooves on the drive pulley may have worn away. These grooves are necessary to pull the rubber drainage belt. Without them your rubber belt and main drive will wear prematurely. Fortunately, National Filter Media can replace your drive pulley or recover your worn pulley for a fraction of the cost.
Cake is forming thicker on one side of the unit. If you are in a new facility, the foundations could have settled within the first few years, causing bit of a slope. Even a slight change in slope can make a dramatic difference in cake thickness across the width of the belt. Proper alignment will also help your vacuum pan stay sealed.
Wrinkles or bunching in cloth belt. If your current belt tracking system is the spring/ rope configuration or a steel two wheel edge tracker, then NFM’s UHMW polyethylene Edge Trackers are an easy way to smooth out your belt. We can even reconfigure your cloth belt so that it has pip edging for the tracker to grip.
Endless rubber drainage belts require weeks of down time to install. Instead of tearing your filter apart and struggling to install an endless belt, let NFM come in and hot vulcanize a new rubber drainage belt right onto your equipment in three days. You’ll be up and running in no time!
